Remembering rock idols with long hair styles

Everyone around the world would readily agree to the fact that there
has been till date no other phenomenon such as the rise of Rock music
and its subsequent proliferation in the layers of worldwide popular
culture, in terms of providing men especially the young stars with an
almost never ending repository of hair styles that were or rather are
bold, fashionable, chic and needless to say super cool! Right from the
days of Beatles, Stones and Hendrix people have been either spending
sincere hours at home in front of mirrors or queuing up in front of
parlors and saloons to have that perfect “Mick Jagger” locks or the
ideal “Paul McCartney ” mop.
With a half century period of fan following culture and craze behind,
today one doesn’t require to be reminded of the fact that every one of
us possesses a rock star deep within and mostly it is left to the
hairstyle to facilitate the manifestation. However, not every one of us
are able to make a career out of rock music in any way be it as a
musician in a band, being a part of their road crew and managerial team
or some post in the record industry. But that does not necessarily has
have anything to do with a fan’s strong urge and imagination revolving
around the magical world and hence the hair style ends up playing a
crucial role by bridging the gap between the practical reality and the
dream world of rock n roll lifestyle. As mentioned above, the hair style
was always an essential component of the entire iconography associated
with rock music. However, it was actually towards the end of 1970s and
the beginning of 1980s that saw the phenomenal hike in the popularity of
hair styles associated with rock music particularly heavy metal. In
fact, a major section of the music around this period would be
categorized as hair metal. The most easily recognizable style of the era
was the careless layers of long straight hair in a staggered manner.
Assuming the sharpness of all, this style was an unapologetically
bold statement about being confident to the threshold of irrefutable
arrogance and egotism. Cutting across an array of bands like Van Halen,
Motley Crue, Poison, Dokken, Cinderella, Skid Row, Ratt, Guns N’ Roses,
Winger, Whitesnake, Europe, LA Guns, Warrant and Extreme among several
others, the style almost symbolized a kind of crushing self-assurance
along with a weathered superiority and class. Even today to think of our
favorite bad boys including Sebastian Bach, Tommy Lee, Warren De
Martini, Axl Rose, Kip Winger, etc the first thing that comes to the
mind are the staggered long layers on the head. |
