Taking care of long hair

Whether it is a question of the tradition of the mythic icons of Greek or Scandinavian folklores or that of a modern scenario such as the Heavy Metal scene of the 1970s, the idea of a long mane of hair has always been an appealing for men all over the world. While some are lucky enough to grow long, solid and lavish hair naturally without any effort or attention, most people desiring it have to work hard for achieving. But in both of the cases, one has to take great care in order to maintain a healthy condition and avoid unnecessary loss of hair.

1. Maintaining a proper diet – This is certainly one of the most important things as far as maintenance and care for hair especially of longer length is concerned. Just like for any other health ground a balanced diet plays an equally significant role even in the maintenance of long hair. A balanced diet with considerable amounts of multivitamin elements will provide adequate nutrition to the hair and allow it to grow sooner, longer as well as stronger.

2. Maintenance of bodily hygiene by cleaning regularly – Unlike the short or even the medium length hair which are always recommended to wash regularly in order to protect it from dust and foreign particles, long hair washing is a different thing altogether. While it is both inconvenient and impractical to wash long hair every day, even drying it with artificial equipments can also prove to be harmful. However, it should be washed at least twice a week along with conditioning in order to avoid breakage and fall.

3. Taking care about lying down or sleeping – It is almost a common knowledge that long hair is more susceptible to injury and damage compared to their shorter counterparts, and it has been seen that most of the wear and tear takes place during sleep. Tossing and turning during sleep at night on dry, fragile or artificially styled hair can prove to be extremely harmful the health of one’s hair if it is of long length. However, one can diminish the effect of the damage primarily by sleeping with on pillowcases made of satin or silk that will help to prevent rupture of hair and also preserve the hairstyle better than the rough cotton or synthetic pillow cases. Sleeping with the hair wet is strictly prohibited.

4. Application of artificial hair care products – Today there are numerous items available which are manufactured keeping in mind the special needs of individuals such as ones with long hair. One must try and purchase items like shampoo or conditioner which do not contain peroxide or alcohol in order to avoid the harmful burning effect.
